What is Intersectionality?

Intersectionality—the complex, cumulative manner in which the effects of different forms of discrimination combine, overlap, or intersect

Merriam Webster Dictionary

In the late 1980s, feminist activist Kimberle Crenshaw argued that antidiscrimination law, feminist theory, and antiracist politics all failed to address the experiences of black women because of how they each focus on only a single factor. One might wonder why this might be an issue for our community but the same arguments can be made with drug use and a multitude of different ‘intersections’, be they race, gender, sexuality, class or any number of others.
